P-021 EXECUTED: Pricing structure change #3: Choosing options

Some point of view on potential impact of the changes and the situation overall:

  • Sure, during a bear market, paying 1 or 3 tez per domain isn’t a big difference, especially if it’s for a working project or a personal name
  • The real difference lies in the potential for broader usage. We don’t have that many active projects that truly need a domain and are indifferent to pricing. This change narrows down the target audience. There is a real risk that total income may actually decrease after the price increase.
  • What happens if the price of Tezos goes up, while user interest stays the same and domain prices remain high.
  • Many good domains are currently available on the primary market for very low prices, yet people still aren’t registering or renewing them. Interest is clearly low.
  • No one is buying domains on the secondary market either.
  • You’re lowering prices for 3-4 domains for the reasons mentioned above, which makes sense.
  • TF is splitting the user experience with Etherlink. I would expect Tezos Domains to respond to this, perhaps by supporting EVM and keeping .tez as the canonical domain name on Tezos.
  • At some point, someone enthusiastic might come along, copy-paste the project, add EVM support, lower prices, introduce a new name like .tz and create yet another split. I don’t think that’s something we need right now.
  • Only a few people are voting on proposals, I wouldn’t consider this activity a trustworthy decision-making process from an outside perspective. I’m pointing this out because the least interesting thing here is how it was voted on in the DAO. Given the combination of technical DAO setup and current low interest.
  • In my view, you have the right to increase or decrease the prices as you see fit, in order to make this thing working. I just want the project to survive, while still keeping opportunities open for users, in terms of pricing policy and the possibility to stay involved. I love the app itself, it’s one of the best useful apps on Tezos right now.
