DRAFT: Project B / Airdrop Season 2

Voting period: 7 days

Abstract:

This project aims to launch another airdrop season alongside targeted marketing efforts to drive more traffic and attract users to Tezos Domains.

The project will be divided into four key phases: Research, Marketing, Airdrop and Affiliate

Rationale:

The first airdrop had a relatively small claim percentage (20.06%). The remaining tokens have been allocated to the DAO for future projects and, in some cases, for payment purposes.

This project aims to reconnect with the community we once had. With a solid structure in place and active support over the past year, we are poised to maintain a dedicated community of domainers, Tezos enthusiasts, and crypto lovers.

It will also encourage more people to engage actively within the DAO.

While the project has faced challenges in maintaining ongoing discussions, we recognize the need to bring renewed excitement and sophistication to reignite interest and make the project feel more dynamic.

Additionally, this initiative presents an opportunity to reward the continued community spirit and recognize the contributions of active members.

Details:

As outlined in the Abstract, this project will be divided into three sections:

Section 1: Research & Marketing Preparation

The research phase will span one month at the beginning of the project. During this time, the Project Lead will conduct research into other naming services to inform marketing strategies and community engagement efforts. The research will cover the following areas:

  • In-depth analysis of marketing strategies
  • Community engagement assessment
  • Twitter/X activity analysis
  • Engagement with community-run projects
  • Airdrop infographic creation
  • Airdrop structuring
  • Tasking Structuring for Discord. Tasks will run after month 2.
  • Pricing structure comparison (comparing the pricing models of Tier 1 naming services, including the top 50 chains, to ensure 3xtz is competitively priced)

Throughout this period, the Lead will collaborate with the Marketing Manager to devise the best approach, with regular communication. They will hold weekly meetings, arranged by the team. Meeting minutes will be shared with the Core Team and CM Team. We will encourage moderators to participate in discussions to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project.

Section 2: Marketing & PR

With the recent price adjustments and the un-gating of 1- and 2-character names (assuming marketing efforts are in place during this period), we aim to attract a larger audience and cultivate a more active community. Marketing strategies will primarily remain confidential, shared only with the Core Team and other CM team members. However, here is a brief overview of the marketing plan:

  • Engaging posts on X related to the airdrop
  • Weekly custom graphics about the airdrop, created by the Lead and Marketing Manager
  • Medium articles
  • Outreach to XTZ/Crypto-based news outlets
  • Two press releases: one for the DAO and one for the season 2 airdrop.
  • Tasking on Discord; Create Tasks and Proof Tasking via Screenshots on Discord, users will be allocated a Budget of Tasks completed this budget.

Section 3: Airdrop

The airdrop will be designed to ensure fairness, with approval from the Core Team, an internal vote of confidence will be required to confirm the mechanics and distribution process.

Specification:

Goals:
As outlined in the Rationale, this project aims to reconnect with previous community members while attracting new ones. It will also focus on increasing overall DAO activity.

This may also bring in more revenue to Tezos Domains as a whole. This, in turn, will enable the project to implement more community-driven changes to the dApp.

Airdrop Mechanics:
The Legacy Airdrop and DAO/Activity Drops will occur simultaneously. Since the number of eligible accounts is not large, these will likely be processed manually with signatures from the Core Team, SoG, and CM.

This process is mainly automated, however the Lead & Core will check the data and the data will be made public once all data is complete.

Main Drop Mechanics will not be made public until after distrobution.
The Core Team will be allocated a Budget to write a script to deploy tokens from the list of eligible addresses.

Eligibility:

  • ONLY 1 Account will be eligible. Sybil’s will be disqualified completely.
  • Members who have worked on this project (if accepted) will not be eligible for any drop.

Progress:

Throughout the project, we will maintain communication with the Core Team, and progress will be visible in real-time, as this is a community-driven project. The workgroup will adhere to our schedule and provide key updates to the Core Team during meetings, or through meeting minutes if the Core Team is unavailable.

2,700,000 TED (~2.7%) isn’t enough to fix the decentralization of this project, I also recommend widening eligibility to be all users of Tezos Domains since inception, excluding Core team and known bot addresses from A1.

If the goal really is to decentralize the CAO, I suggest an airdrop to the community to be somewhere around ~20M TED

On a pie chart, this would give the entire community ~+5% more weight over core contributors. (~8% community, ~20% core contributors from Airdrop 1). As stated, much of the 8% wasn’t claimed from A1. Less than 2% in fact, if you read on.

The goal of this is to restart relations with the community and give them a ~+5% advantage, or a “near” level playing field so to say

This also removes lifetime power that core holds, even with just 20% weight they have, its a vast difference vs 8% (2%), its lifetime control. Market liquidity makes it difficult to overtake them etc.

Any unclaimed from A2 should do another round between active claimants of A2, should any of that go unclaimed, then it will go to the treasury.

Funding this can be done multiple ways, the end goal being community ~+5% over core contributors.

Yeah, so I have suggested with the other 54% of the remainder of the airdrop tokens unclaimed that the Core creates another drop which would ideally be occurring at the same time as this one, or if not over the course of 2025.

This wouldn’t be possible as we would have to reap the TED from other pre-allocated sectors which isn’t a good idea imo, the % allocated to the community will be in the range of 8.2%* in total and opportunity to increase this overtime with governance rewards. Ideally, we could look to take some out of the DAO Community Treasury Allocation, however, just dumping loads of tokens around to people that will more than likely sell will just eat up liquidity and cause the token to drop, which in-turn will be a risk to the DAO as the price will dip massively if 20M was allocated.

I’d much rather have the current team allocation than some random person buying up all TED in a mass sell-off to gain significant control over DAO votes.

The team tokens aren’t fully unlocked yet, so whilst you’re right in saying that they have 20% weight, they currently, do not.

If a drop was to happen, it wouldn’t exceed the total airdropped token allocation (being 8.2%*)

This project is just the start of better distribution, once this is done, there should be more active participants & more proposals, some may even look to allocate some more of the DAO Treasury tokens to be distributed

Yes, you’d much rather the current team allocation because you’re a part of the team and they pay your bills.

Not sure if you got the memo recently but the token is currently as you describe it, next to worthless. Aslong as the proportions are fair, let the tokens enter the market and find level ground. It wouldn’t be a dump of tokens either as you’re aware, it’s a staggered process.

I’m not sure why the team are so keen on this 8% figure, you really don’t want to let go no? Just look at the ENS distribution… Still greedy for their core team, but notice how the community still gets more.

If you are not prepared to fix the underlying issue, there is no trust in the product and your token will gain no value.

Fantasy, sorry to say. It will remain centralised.

If anyone should pay the cost of burden, its the core team. Would they be happy to lose 10% and give that towards the community for their errors?

No, I just feel they have worked for enough say on the project. If it was my project, I’d be the same, and I am sure you would too.

I’m only proposing to use the Airdrop Unclaimed Allocation, once this has been better distributed, then everyone can start proposing how the DAO uses the Community Treasury TED tokens etc.

You say this but don’t back up the reasonings why.

Since Airdrop 1, how much work have they done on the project? - If it was my project I’d at least compare against other well known platforms and their distribution models.

I see, this won’t change much in my opinion, just a waste of treasury funds when we could fix all of it in this proposal. This is just a rehash of A1, illogical.

They should pay the cost of burden because they messed up on the delivery of #1. and practically destroyed the community? Too greedy, put themselves 1st before the community.

Curious what other peoples thoughts are

This would just be down to funding and money in general, other naming service platforms have way more funds then us so they’re able to do more with the project, as the project is now DAO run, any improvements would/should go through the DAO. I get that you think that $96k is a lot, but it’s not in the grand scheme of things.

Why don’t you propose for an increase in Core Team Funding to increase more features being added? Or better yet, think of improvements and speak to the team and see how much it would cost the DAO to implement

CAO you mean, like you said in this proposal, 8% community airdrop but the majority didn’t claim it. Don’t understand why we don’t call it by its real name?

$96k isn’t even anything to do with this proposal? It’s a lot when you’ve got hardly anything to show for it. Again you’re speaking for others, its relative.

Can you hear the birds chirping and the leaves rustling?

I’m happy either way to be honest, they can have the $96k and not fix the decentralization, it seems apparent they have no desire to fix it. Only brings my desires one step closer.

Anyone else wanna chime in?

I understand, but you’re referring to this indirectly and stemming from the general conversation consensus of your mentality about this project, DAO and the Core Team and other DAO roleholders.

You’re expecting way too much to happen with this proposal, the only real way we can make this more decentralized is by distributing the remainder of the airdrop unclaimed % and give the DAO a better distribution it deserves. After this has been completed (if accepted) there will more than likely be more users participating in the DAO and the dApp in general.

You can’t just expect the team to burn 10% just to make you happy. It just doesn’t work like that. The distribution is fair IF the Airdrop tokens are fully allocated, as it stands given that only 20.06% of the 8.2% was claimed, which means only 1.6% (roughly) of the total supply was distributed to the actual community, which imo isn’t good, and I am sure everyone can agree to this.

Once we get it fully distributed, and the governance rewards continue, the % becomes more fair towards the community aspect of the DAO, and not only that but in the future, there is nothing stopping more tokens being allocated from the DAO Community Treasury as mentioned in previous comments on this proposal.

We seem to be on the same page, but you keep this negative light on constantly, which is really up to you.

Where am I referring to $96k indirectly? All my comments before you mentioned this sum are related to this proposal.

So, a rehash of Airdrop #1 to fix, when we already have experience of the community not being happy EVEN BEFORE the distribution of A1? Just do it again yeah?

I don’t expect anything from this team, but they created the problem, right?

Glad we agree, can you stop calling it a DAO now and be honest? Its currently a CAO, I think we should refer to it as so.

We aren’t on the same page, read my 1st post on this proposal.

I have to when you don’t agree with anything I say, but you defend the core team and not say 1 negative thing about their work? (but you did when you was an OG). Where’s the neutrality. At least I’m providing ideas to fix this, where are they?

I’m happy with either outcome to be honest as said. Wanna hear other peoples opinions

The whole conversation on discord, along with comments on the forum about this.

No, it will be structured differently to the first Airdrop.

This is something you’d need to ask them, it would ultimately be up to their discretion if they do or not.

Yeah, I think the distribution needs working on, hence this proposal.

This is false, I’ve even said in the discord and in the mod’s chat that you have plenty of good points but you just display them incorrectly and/or against the rules. I don’t agree with some things you say, but it’s not like I am dismissing what you’re saying completely. This is only the start, we can’t just dump 20m as suggested, this would be a bad idea and have given you reasons why. You haven’t given any good enough reasons why dumping 20m is a good idea.

Once the full Airdrop % HAS been distributed. The options are open on what to do with the DAO Community Tokens as mentioned multiple times now. It’s a good idea to see what happens with the token once/if this project gets the go ahead and then go from there, not just go straight in the deep end thinking its going to be sunshine’s and rainbows, when it probably wont be. Small changes domino into big changes. Trust the process.

I haven’t mentioned $96k in this proposal, you must have mistaken a sentence or took something out of context.

Structured different yes, but really no difference. Just try and get that 8% community target?

Right, but you ain’t scratching the surface with what you’re relaying to me.

Why use scary words? 20M wouldn’t be “dumped”, it would be a staggered rollout, could take 2 years for all users to claim the full sum. - I’ve given my reasons in my first post why its good.

Oh, I trust it.

If you read what I said about the teams salary, you’d understand the context.

I wouldn’t suggest a ‘claim type drop’ it should be just dropped into accounts rather than claimed, we don’t want to do this all for 20.06% of accounts to claim. So we’d be back to square 1.

I idealize dropping to the community members that are active within the Tezos Space, this would include you, the 1st airdrop done this wrong, and it would’ve only really worked if there was a multiple million pool of liquidity, which obviously wasn’t the case. We should be making things right & distributing a fair amount to those who have contributed along with possible new-comers that will look to contribute.

The other 54% drop will be aimed for the core & I to brainstorm a mechanism with certain attributes that will not be disclosed until the end of the drop so that gaming isn’t much of an issue.

Yes, but you haven’t advised on how to do this without it virtually stealing from other pools of tokens as it stands there are only 40M tokens in unlocked circulation give or take, which makes it virtually impossible to do 20M currently. (Most of this is from the liquidity) and even still around 8m was burnt, so its even less than 40M tokens. Which doesn’t help your case.

I’m not talking about the teams salary, this proposal is to do with A2? Tbh I don’t even know what you’re on about, just waffling on this point.

I’d agree with you for this small airdrop that you suggest. It would immediately be in circulation, makes sense to go that way with this.

Not a bad suggestion, I support this. (Not for self gain, not my goal).

Word it how you like, its possible to reach my target in post 1 if we subtract from core + treasury, I’ve given my reasoning throughout this thread

My bad, let me clarify again context again:

I thought this was digging about the team being paid, judging from your comments prior to the comments on this proposal, on discord and the forum about the teams justification of the $96k payments. My bad if the teams wage isn’t an issue for you anymore?

No problem. You thought wrong. As you can see I didn’t mention $96k anywhere, but you still keep making it the point of discussion lol.

Didn’t you post about it on Tezos Reddit? Hence I thought you had a problem with the salaries?

I know its not apart of this proposal, I am just talking out of context about your general feel for the project during these discussions.

This proposal is to do with Airdrop 2 Snorlax? - Lets stay in context for the public.

Yes, but you’re also suggesting things out of scope of an airdrop? Hence why I mentioned it.
